What I Believe
I grew up learning about Jesus. But I was not a follower of Christ. I struggled with the basic questions of faith:
How can we trust the Bible?
How could Jesus have risen from a tomb?
If God is real, why do so many bad things happen in the world?
What is the meaning of life?
In the study notes of my Bible, it says that “silent doubts rarely find answers.” So I began to ask questions out loud. To God.
My first feeble prayers started like this: “God, if you’re there …”
I can’t report a single flash-of-light conversion experience. But over the years, God has granted me new and growing faith in His Son.
I’ve still got a lot of questions, but this I know: When I Get Down with Jesus, I’m putting down roots that go deep.
MY FAITH STATEMENT
I confess Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I believe Jesus is God, the living Word, who became flesh. I believe He voluntarily atoned for my sin by dying on the cross. I believe He rose from the dead, ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father. I believe in the Holy Spirit as a divine Person, sent to indwell, guide and empower believers.
I believe that salvation is a work of God’s free grace and is not the result of human works, “being good” or taking part in religious ceremonies.
The basis of my belief is the Bible, the inspired Word of God found in the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments.
I believe in God, and I believe God.
I believe that being a Christian isn’t a thing we do just on Sundays, and that church isn’t something that just happens at the altar, and that grace abounds everywhere – sometimes where we least expect it.I believe that Jesus Christ is coming again.
And I believe that I will live with Him forever.

JENNIFER @ GETTING DOWN WITH JESUS

Love your blog. I love it when people find the truth (thinking about my friends that got saved this past year and my husband), and it does not always happen all at once… I love to tell people its okay to have doubt and unbelief, keep asking God to help you understand and read your bible. The promise is to seek and you will find, not scorn and find or find it falling from the sky randomly like bird poo. All the questions are what seeking looks like many times:) God has broad shoulders, and we love Him becasue He loved us first. Imagine loving sombody you don’t even know?!? Well it doesn’t make sense to be able to love and trust a God you don’t know either, so get to know Him. Start now and see where it takes you:) Yeah sure it sounds nuts to pray to a God you are not sure exists, and read His book, but you got to start somewhere. People seem to think you cannot try out Christianity…that you jsut have to know and be sure about something you never checked into, researched or tried. We try a diet to see if it is for us, but cannot imagine trying God or trying ot get to know God. Its so funny!
I like that, JC! The above post and yours really open up my eyes to my faith and beliefs.
Thanks for your beautiful site. I’m Catholic and I just want to show some love to all our Protestant brothers and sisters.
Jennifer,
Thanks for taking the time to share so intimately how God revealed Himself to you in the person of Jesus Christ. So many people talk religiously of our Savior and yet never encounter Him in the father/child relationship He desires.
Even after 16 years, I know I am infantile in my relationship and am learning to lean on Him and trust Him more fully each and every day.
Looking forward to future posts.
Brian
What a fabulous faith statement! Can I say how refreshing it is to read someone’s bold, strong conviction laid out there for all to see and read? Blessings to you!
